Part One: Obtaining the Necessary Files
Part Three: Playing Odyssey2 Games
This tutorial will teach you how to play Magnavox Odyssey2 games on your Windows-based PC by using the O2EM emulator and O2EM Launcher front-end.
Before you can play Odyssey2 games on your PC, hopefully it makes sense that you first need to obtain the necessary files. Here is a concise "laundry list" of the required files:
The preceding files are available for download from one or both of the following Web sites:
http://o2em.sourceforge.net/downloads.html
http://www.videogamearchive.com/emu/o2_ext.htm
http://www.videogamearchive.com/emu/o2_rom.htm
After you have downloaded all of the required files, you need to use a ZIP utility such as WinZip (www.winzip.com) to unpack the files. First, unpack the O2EM emulator files and the O2EM Launcher files into the same directory.
Next, create two folders in your O2EM folder: ROMs and VOICE. Place your game ROMs in the ROMs folder, and place your Odyssey2 sound sample files into the VOICE folder. Your O2EM folder should look like the following:

One more thing: make sure your OS2ROM.BIN Odyssey2 BIOS ROM is located in the same folder as the rest of your O2EM/Launcher files.
Next we want to start the O2EMLauncher application by double-clicking O2EMLauncher.exe from your O2EM folder.

Click Settings to configure O2EM settings.

Use the Video settings to tweak how large the playfield should be. You can also configure sound, speed, and stick options in the Settings dialog box.
What we really need to do, however, is ensure that O2EM Launcher knows where our various files and components reside. In the Directories section of the Settings dialog box, click the button beside each element and browse to their respective locations. For instance, to specify your game ROM directory, click the button beside Games and browse to the location of your Odyssey2 game ROMs folder.

The Emu setting should point to the location of your O2EM.EXE file. The Shots setting points to the location of your in-game screen shots. You should find that these come standard with the O2EM Launcher application. If you want, you can download game box cover images and ASCII-text-formatted game manuals and plug in their location paths.
Click Roms to go back to the main interface window. You now probably want to configure the control settings, correct? Well, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that to see the default keyboard mappings, all you have to do is click Tools => Emulator Keys in the O2EM Launcher window. The bad news is that there is no option to change the default keyboard controls. Bummer!

That's really all there is to O2EM basic configuration. Now let's get to the good stuff--playing Odyssey2 games!
Assuming that your paths are correct. you will see a list of installed game ROMs in the O2EM Launcher main window. When you single-click each game title in the list, you should see a preview screenshot for the game.

To play a game, you can either double-click a game title in the list, or you can single-click the title to select it, and then click Launch O2EM from the right side of the O2EM Launcher window. Voila!

Remember to press ENTER once you've started the ROM to begin a game. To reset the game, press F5. When you are finished playing a game, simply click the Close button or press ESC to return to the O2EM Launcher window. I hope that you found this tutorial helpful. Have fun!
