Today's programmers have the benefit of using all the hard-earned experience gained over the system's 14-year commercial lifespan, while learning a few tricks the original software pioneers didn't know.

Alfred Challenge Only 40 copies were made for the original "world wide" release, complete with box and instructions, making them more rare than the later re-releases by Hozer Games.
Allia Quest Neat little shooter. Released at Classic Gaming Expo, only about 50 copies were available at the show. Originally came complete with a color box and label.
Arcade Pong Decent port of the original. One of several new games that were included in Atari's Flashback 2 system.
Astar Port of an old calculator game called Dstar.
Backfire Similar in play to Demons to Diamonds except you control both the top and bottom guns.
Blip Football VCS version of the electronic handheld game.
Cave Port of the popular web-based Flash helicopter game.
Caverns of Mars Terrible port of the Atari 8-bit classic. One of several new games that were included in Atari's Flashback 2 system.
Climber 5 A port of an Atari 8-bit computer game that appeared in COMPUTE! magazine circa 1987.
Conquest of Mars A wonderful port of the Atari 8-bit classic, including some added features such as 2-player, different cavern layouts, a survival bonus, and even an ending! This is the version Flashback 2 owners should have!
Crazy Balloon Nice port of the Taito arcade game.
Crazy Valet A video version of the old sliding puzzle game. There are several versions of the game, including a "CGE 2001" edition.
Cubis One of several different versions of Tetris.
Dark Mage The first text adventure game for the VCS.
Deimos Lander Very similar to Atari's coin-op Lunar Lander.
Edtris One of several different versions of Tetris.
Euchre Video version of the somewhat popular card game.
Fall Down Players complete against each other in an ultimate battle to capture scrolling platforms.
Fellowship of the Ring Text adventure based on Lord of the Rings.
FlapPing Essentially a pong-type game, but with Joust-type controls!  Originally called "JoustPong".
Four-Play Version of the popular Connect Four board game.
Go Fish! Port of the Intellivision game Shark! Shark!
Gunfight Improved version of Outlaw.
Hunchy II Sequel to the Hunchback arcade game with gameplay very similar to Jumpman.
Hunt the Wumpus A very nice version of the classic hide-and-seek game.
INV+ Port of Space Invaders.
Lady Bug Excellent port of the arcade game.
Loopcart A mini-tracker that lets you compose short looped sequences.
Lunar Lander One of several new games that were included in Atari's Flashback 2 system.
M-4 Port of Midway's 1977 arcade game.
Marble Craze A side by side split-screen one or two player game where you roll a marble along a path across multiple screens to a finish line.
Marble Jumper Version of the classic Peg Solitaire game, with 24 different puzzles to solve.
Medieval Mayhem New port of the Atari arcade classic.
Mental Kombat Interesting, original puzzle game.
Merlin's Walls A maze game featuring Real-time 3-D on your VCS. The only drawback is it's a vertically-oriented game, so to view it properly you have to either lie on your side, or put the TV on its side.
Minesweeper Port of the popular PC Windows game.
Mondo Pong Pong variant.
Night Rider Simple but fun 1K game.
Okie Dokie Inspired by the popular game, Lights Out.
Oystron An impressive multi-sprite demo-turned-game. One of the earliest homebrew titles.
Pac-Man A very nice 4k port of Pac-Man that lacks in the sound f/x but is visually more faithful to the original than what owners got from Atari.
Pesco Essentially Ebivision's Pac-Man under a different name (and graphics).
Poker Squares Based on the card game of the same name.
Power Off! Originally called Escape from Supercade, and programmed in conjunction with Van Burnham's book of the same name.
Pressure Gauge This simple game challenges your reflexes and timing.
Qb Originally designed by Davie in 1984 for Atari 8-bit (800) computers.
Rainbow Invaders A more-colorful version of Space Invaders.
Raster Fahndung Locate small patterns in a playfield and get points for each pattern found.
Red Box The name "red box" is for any modified tone dialer that phone 'phreakers' use to fool payphones into thinking that coins have been inserted, allowing for free calls.
Reindeer Rescue Help Santa rescue his lost reindeer through different locales - the North Pole, frozen tundra, ice caves, suburbia, and the big city.
SCSIcide Your task as the hard drive controller is to read the data bits in the correct color order. Prevent a hard drive crash by reading the bits before the latency buffer underflows (i.e., you run out of time). The first paddle-based homebrew game, SCSIcide uses hexadecimal scoring to increase the geek-factor.
Seawolf Port of the Midway's Seawolf and Seawolf II arcade games
Skeleton+ A 3D game where you travel through a maze similar in style to Escape from the Mindmaster (though not nearly as polished). Kill off 10 skeletons and move to the next maze, 8 mazes in all
Sound X Demonstrated all the possible sounds with the VCS.

Collect treats at the top of the screen and return safely to the bottom.

Space Treat Deluxe

Collect treats at the top of the screen and return safely to the bottom.

Splatform

Port of Robin Harbron's 2002 MiniGame Comp submission.

Squish 'Em Perfect port of Sirius' Atari 400/800 game.

 

Star Fire Excellent port of Exidy's Star Fire arcade game.

 

Stell-A-Sketch Video version of the popular Etch-A-Sketch toy.
Strat-O-gems Deluxe Gameplay is similar to Columns or Acid Drop.

 

Swoops Multi-cart containing Cave, Crash 'n Dive, and Splatform

 

Synthcart Play melodies using just a pair of Keyboard Controllers, Touch Pad Controllers, or Kid's Controllers!
Testcart Diagnostic cart to test your VCS console's sound, graphics, switches, and controllers.

 

Tetris26 One of several different versions of Tetris.

 

This Planet Sucks Port of Taito's Lunar Rescue.

 

Thrust+ Platinum Port of the 1986 C-64 title of the same name by Firebird, which was basically a poor man's Gravitar.

 

Twisty Passages Navigate through a lab maze before the lab technician completes his experiment.
Vault Assault Very similar to the coin-op "Space Zap"

 

Video Simon The name says it all. Play Simon against the computer or your friends.

 

Video Time Machine Use your Atari as a clock. Features characters from several games occasionally cruising by.
Warring Worms A much improved version of the Atari game "Surround" (not a hack).
Yahtzee Follows the standard rules of Yahtzee, except that you can only score extra Yahtzees as a Yahtzee (some versions of the rules allow you to score extra Yahtzees as combinations less than a Yahtzee).
Z-Blocks Another Tetris clone that includes several new options, such as head-to-head play.
